One thing I try to do as your worship
pastor is to make sure we know most of the songs that are commonly sung in the
Church today. This is a hugely important
part of making this “one voice” unity thing reach beyond the walls of our
church's building. When we sing a song like “How
Great Is Our God” (currently the most commonly sung worship song according to
CCLI who provides licensing services to churches like us) we can know that we
are lifting our voices in a kind of unison with many other believers across the
nation and globe.
Our God—written by Chris Tomlin, Jesse Reeves, Jonas
Myrin, and Matt Redman—has been the fastest rising worship song I’ve ever seen!
Now it’s been about a year since it came out on radio, and it is the 3rd
most commonly sung worship song in America according to CCLI. I can see why…it is POWERFUL in both lyric
and music! We love songs that let us powerfully proclaim what we believe about
God: “Then sings my soul, my Savior God
to Thee, how great Thou art…”; “Savior, He can move the mountains, my God is
mighty to save!”; “Here I am to worship…Here I am to say that You’re my God”;
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come…” And
now: “Our God is
greater…stronger…higher…And if our God for us, then who could ever stop us?” As we proclaim it, I hope you have a greater
sense of unity knowing that we’re joining our song with so many other
believers!
