The Song:
The song “Center” by Charlie Hall and Matt Redman may seem an odd choice for a new song to learn during the Christmas season.  And, yet, I think there is something quite fitting about proclaiming Christ as the center of everything and asking Him to be the center of our lives in the midst of a season that celebrates His birth.  In the first chapter of his gospel account, the apostle John wrote that Jesus “existed in the beginning with God” and that “God created everything through Him” (John 1:2-3 NLT).

When we sing “Center” we sing to Christ that “Everything was made in You” but we also take it another step forward to proclaim “Everyone was made for you.”  It’s true isn’t it?  The Father has made Him King of all heaven and earth, so that necessarily includes you and me.  In a season where we strive to remember that Christ was born for us, we would do well to also remember that we were born for Him!  As the song says, “Wrap [your] life around [His] life” this Christmas…let Him be your Center.

  1. I think that Center is the perfect song to sing during the Christmas season. I joke with my students before Christmas break when they ask me what I am going to get my wife for Christmas. I tell them that it is not her birthday why should I be getting her anything. I am joking of course, but it is always nice to remember the reason for the season.
